Scope Note

This is a REFRESHER only. The initial 32-hour MAT certification must be completed in-person with a Virginia Board of Nursing-approved instructor — that is outside the scope of DSPlife.

Abuse, Neglect & Exploitation (ANE)

Required training on recognizing and reporting abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Covers physical, emotional, and sexual abuse indicators; neglect types; exploitation; and mandatory reporting under Virginia Code.

HANDS-ON CERTIFICATION REQUIRED. This online course provides knowledge and theory only. Full CPR certification requires in-person, hands-on skills verification with a certified AHA or Red Cross instructor. This does NOT replace in-person certification.

Actual performance evaluations must be conducted as face-to-face meetings between supervisor and staff. This course trains staff on the process.

What Requires In-Person Training Outside DSPlife?

The following certifications cannot be completed online and require a certified instructor:

  • CPR/AED Certification — Must be completed with an AHA or Red Cross instructor. DSPlife provides the knowledge refresher only.
  • Initial MAT (32-hour) — Must be completed with a Virginia Board of Nursing-approved instructor. DSPlife provides the annual refresher only.
  • Behavior Support & De-Escalation (TOVA, CPI, or equivalent) — Physical intervention techniques require in-person, hands-on training.
  • Seizure Management Practicum — Rescue medication administration (e.g., Diastat) requires in-person training.
